An important and exceptional vintage, circa 1960 large Bulgari Bvlgari diamond brooch, crafted in the style of a cornucopia giardinetto flower basket with blooming flowers, diamond blossoms and hand carved and chiseled gold leaves and textures.
The present one of a kind Bulgari brooch was made to a custom order with customer's stones sometimes during the 1960s or early 1970s. It is a very large piece measuring 73x68mm (about 2.9"x2.7"), bulging to about a 17mm (0.7") of thickness, and almost completely covers the palm of a hand. The long pin and clasp at the back is made of 18K white gold.
The piece contains 28 larger sized diamonds of various sizes and cuts, mainly being round brillian, old European cut and one slightly oval, as well as another 72 round brilliant cut diamonds of smaller graduated sizes paving the tip of the cornucopia basket opening. The larger diamonds range from a little over a carat for the largest one (6.20x6.20x3.40mm) down to a couple of diamonds of 2.50mm in diameter and estimated weight of 0.05 carats each. Total estimated carat weight of the 28 larger diamonds is estimated in the 8.50 carat range, while the smaller 78 diamonds have an estimated combined weight of another 3.50 carats. Total weight of all 100 diamonds is in the 12 carat range, estimated within settings. As this was a custom order executed by Bvlgari with their bespoke giardinetto flower basket design, but with customer's own stones, most of the larger stones are in the SI1-I1 clarity range, but with superb sparkling white color in the F-G color range. The 78 smaller round brilliant cut diamonds were provided by Bulgari and are of superb average VVS1 clarity range and F white color.
The brooch is signed BVLGARI, as well as Made in Italy on its reverse plus it bears the ☆ 571 AL maker's marks of Barbin Francesco's workshop in Valenza, where Bvlgari commissioned pieces through its Valenza based Manifattura Bulgari. The piece is also hallmarked 750 for 18 karat yellow gold.
Gross weight of this fascinating piece of jewellery is 68.2 grams of 18K gold.
