Yellow Dog UK is an ambassador of the Gulahund “Yellow Dog” Project and is a registered charity in the UK.  Not every dog wants attention, some dogs are in training, some dogs have health issues or are recovering from surgery. Some dogs are being rehabilitated or have suffered a bad experience, nervous dogs, or older, fragile dogs that find the world a scary place, through no fault of their own. If you see a dog wearing YELLOW please give the dog and its human some space.

YELLOW can be used for short periods, whilst a dog is in training or on heat.  Or longer periods, if a dog is elderly and doesn’t like young pups around him.  We know it is imperative to socialise all dogs for their own wellbeing and development but we also recognise that there are times and circumstances when a dog just needs space.

If you see a dog wearing YELLOW this dog needs space.  Please don’t approach the dog or its human with your dog. They are indicating to you that their dog cannot be close to other dogs. How close is too close? Only the dog or his human knows so please maintain distance and give them time to move out of your way.  

We believe that making YELLOW an accepted representation throughout the UK will benefit everyone and make dog walking a more enjoyable and safer experience for all, and in turn give your dog a better quality of life.

Why might a dog need space?  There are many reasons why a dog may need space.  It may...

• have health issues
• it may be a rescue dog being rehabilitated - the world can be a very scary place for these dogs
• it may have had a bad experience with another dog or is just not like the kind of friendly dogs which always want to say "Hi!"
• it may be in training
• it may be very old and arthritic
• or it may be nervous or shy and other dogs cause it stress

In short, if you see a dog wearing YELLOW this dog needs space
