About Artist :

Lai Shaoqi (1915-2000), also known as Mu Shizhai, was born in Puning City, Guangdong Province. He is one of the leaders of contemporary Chinese painting and is known as the "sage of the art world". In Japan, he is also known as the "master of Chinese painting". His unique technique of "using white to suppress black" made him the main founder of the new Huizhou style printmaking. [4]

After liberation, he served as the Secretary of the Party Group of the East China Artists Association, the Chairman of the Anhui Artists Association, the Vice Chairman of the China Board Painters Association, the Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association, the Honorary Vice Chairman of the Guangdong Artists Association, and the Vice Chairman of the Anhui Provincial Political Consultative Conference. Mr. Lai Shaoqi is an outstanding revolutionary literary and artistic warrior, and also a famous contemporary Chinese calligraphy and painting master. He has long served as the chairman of the Provincial Artists Association and the Provincial Calligraphy Association, and has been a member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, an executive director of the China Artists Association and Calligraphy Association, a member of the China Writers Association, and a member of the Xiling Seal Engraving Society. In 1996, he was awarded the Lu Xun Printmaking Award.
