This is a turn of the Century Oil Painting that came from the Havemeyer House at 510 Ramapo Valley Road, Mahwah,NJ in the early 2000’s. Henry O. Havemeyer Jr lived in the Family Mansion till about 1992. Henry Jr and his Father were one of the largest Orinthological Collectors in the world. At one point they had over 2000 live Pheasants in their Farm( Mountainside Farm) Mahwah,NJ. The Havemeyer House is now the Office of the President at Ramapo College. Ramapo College purchased the home in 2001.
The painting was completed by one of the Havemeyer, but at this time it is undetermined which Family member painted it. Three of the Family members were known artists.
The Havemeyer Family sold and donated portions of their property to the State of New Jersey to create Ramapo College. Somehow it must have been agreed to have the new College mascot as the Roadrunner.
The Mahwah Museum has a tremendous amount of artifacts and information about the Havemeyer Family and the Havemeyer House.
Henry O. Havemeyer’s Collection was donated to the Yale University Peabody Museum. This painting is available to be viewed in person by appointment. Feel free to ask any questions. The painting can be shipped or locally picked up. Painting measures 24” wide x 19.75” tall.
