"SETO Maneki Neko(瀬戸まねき猫)" has a uniquely realistic and elegant appearance.
"Hachiware" is a very auspicious beckoning cat.

■Condition:Brand NEW

■Description:

  • Size:Height 9.5cm x Width 5cm, Depth 5cm, 60g
  • Design:Calico "Hachiware八われ" lucky cat(Maneki Neko) with right hand raised
  • Made of "Setoyaki瀬戸焼" earthenware and handmade in Seto-city(瀬戸市), Aichi prefecture, Japan.

  • The "SETO Maneki Neko(瀬戸まねき猫)", which features a slender hunchback just like a real cat, was born in late 1800s by applying the European plaster mold technique used to manufacture ornamental figurines (SETO novelties) for overseas markets.
  • A raised right hand signifies money, while a left hand entices customers to a business.
  • Eight(八) is a lucky number in Japanese because when you write it in Chinese characters, the shape of the character is wider towards the bottom.
  • This cat is commonly called "Hachiware" because the color of the hair on its head resembles the Chinese character "eight'(八)".

  • Seto-city is one of the world's most renowned and rare production areas, which has continuously been producing pottery for almost 1000 years. In Japan, the word "setomono" refers to “pottery”.
  • Although all products are carefully painted one by one by craftsmen, color unevenness etc. will inevitably occur during the production process, and slight individual differences will occur.
