A magnificent and absolutely spectacular vintage ca. 1990 Gübelin / Gubelin Switzerland large natural untreated Royal Blue sapphire and diamond ring set in platinum and 18 karat yellow gold.
The oval shaped sapphire of an impeccable loupe clean VVS clarity and exceptional Royal Blue color measures 14.5x10.7x6.7mm with a weight of 10.98 carats, prong set in yellow gold. The sapphire is of a Ceylon / Sri Lanka origin and is confirmed free of any treatments whatsoever, being also a standard for all Swiss Gubelin gem set jewels. The sapphire is accompanied by a GCS - London Gem Lab Report stating the sapphire origin and confirming there are no indications of heat or other treatment. On a further note, the present sapphire exhibits extremely fine clear silk rutile inclusions under light and magnification and having an extremely fine and smooth velvety zoning and milky bands which add an extra blue tint similar to that of a Burma Kashmir color (so called Tyndall effect). Therefore, we would recommend a second gem lab opinion for a possible Burma origin.
On both sides of the sapphire are 2 trillion cut diamonds of fine white H color. One of the diamonds is found to have a VVS2 clarity and the other is in the VS2 range. Both diamonds measure 9.0x9.0x2.6mm and are estimated to have a weight of about 1.00 carats each, i.e. Total Diamond Weight TDW is in the 2.00 carat range (measured within setting).
Ring size is 55 (US size 7 / UK size O), but it can be resized. Gross weight is 7.8 grams of platinum and gold.
The ring is hallmarked Pt950 for platinum, as well as 750 for 18K gold and is signed / marked with Gubelin's maker's mark at inner side of shank. Retail price of this ring was over 200,000 CHF.
Absolutely scarce and magnificent jewelry piece and one of the rare Gubelin untreated sapphire and diamond rings and jewels.
