This is a hard to find engraving of Henry Clay 1777-1852 engraved by Peter Maverick 1780-1831, after a painting
by American portrait artist Charles Bird King 1785-1862. It shows American lawyer and Statesman Henry Clay holding
a document dated February 10, 1821, presented to Congress as a resolution in support of independence of the Spanish
in South America. It was published in Washington City in 1832 by Benjamin O. Tyler. The plate marks measure about
14 1/2” x 19” the full sheet measures 16”x 20” the darker part of the engraving is 10 1/2” x 13 3/4”. It’s has minor soiling
and has creases, probably due to the silk like backing. I have found only one for sale that was hand colored, for over
$3000, most other copies were found in museums. It’s in a 19 3/4”x 23 3/4” Black Walnut frame.
