"Dry January" and "Sober October" is the growing health trend that sees people committing to abstain from

alcohol use for a month. The logic behind the pledge is all about detoxing and taking steps towards better

health. We all know that abstaining  from alcohol certainly has its health benefits and this "Sober Curious"

movement has been growing in popularity every year.

But does a short-term breakup with alcohol even have any measurable

health benefits?

It’s never a bad idea to cut down on alcohol,” said Jennifer Wenger, LCSW,

Substance Use Services program manager of OSF Behavioural Health.

While Dry January may sound a bit gimmicky, if it propels people to evaluate their

relationship with alcohol, then that’s a good thing.”

Many studies have shown that even short-term abstinence from alcohol can improve health and its only by

taking a break from "the Norm" can we truly see if it really is "Better the Devil you know" or if perhaps our

old routines and patterns of behaviour are in need of an overhaul.

When giving up alcohol, even just for one month, people tend to experience a variety of

benefits including clearer skin, better sleep, improved digestion, and financial savings,”

says Hilary Sheinbaum, author of The Dry Challenge: How

to Lose the Booze for Dry January, Sober October, and Any Other Alcohol-Free Month.

At the end of the month, re-evaluate how abstaining from alcohol has impacted how you’re feeling – that may

be motivation enough to continue on the path.

Around 10% of Brits will be taking part in Dry January in 2023. What's more, once the 31 days of sobriety is

over, the initiative usually sees a marked drop in the alcohol consumption of those who took part.

The University of Sussex reports six months after taking on Dry January 70% of people are still drinking

more healthily. While the founders, charity Alcohol Change, reports 70% of people sleep better during Dry

January, 86% save money and 65% notice a general improvement to their overall health.

It is however worth noting that while taking a month off alcohol has its positive effects,

in the long-term, returning to drinking regularly for the remainder of the year can potentially reverse any

positive impacts you made on your body. The government recommends having

two alcohol free days per week, and this can actually

be more beneficial than just having a month off.

Some people reading this have already evaluated their relationship with

alcohol and are looking to make healthy changes

that last beyond the next 30 days.

Whatever time frame your looking at and regardless if you are looking to Detox, Cut Down or Abstain

altogether it wont always be plain sailing and some days will be harder than others (as it is when stopping

any habit) but with a little planning and preparation, and with the use

of any tools and methods at your disposal you can help to ensure your success.

To that end crystals can be an invaluable ally & this set has been designed to be a small but

mighty aid in not just reaching your goals but surpassing them.
