France - 1944 2 France (Allied Occupation) - KM #905 - Mintage: 50,000,000
This coin was minted at the Philadelphia Mint in brass recovered from spent artillery shell casings. It was primary struck for circulation during the Allied Occupation in Algeria and France near the end of World War II. The presence of so many allied military personnel in country at the time caused a coin shortage and the U.S. Mint was tasked with supplementing the coinage production of the French mints..
This coin exhibits a pleasing light toning with underlying cartwheel luster. Despite the substantial mintage, these coins circulated well and are rare in choice uncirculated or higher. NGC population 9/11.
