Coveted Rare 2013 SAINT LAURENT Hedi Slimane Lamb Leather Cafe Racer Jacket, The Ultimate Rock Star Aesthetic

Years ago I saw a Beats by Dre at titled “Got No Strings” featuring Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, DJ Khaled and more, and in it was the coolest cafe racer jacket I’d ever seen (see photos). I didn’t even know who made it at the time and talked to the celebrity stylist behind the ad, Jeanne Yang, who said it was this Hedi Slimane Saint Laurent cafe racer. 

That started an obsessive long search all over the world and I finally tracked one down in my size in Paris and hit the jackpot with the 2013! These are $5,000 retail, but this one is even more rare and coveted because it’s the legendary 2013 lamb leather used in famed rock star designer Hedi Slimane’s first collection for SL.

This jacket seems to have entered the permanent collection like Hedi’s epic L01, but diehard SL/Hedi fans know these later versions just aren’t the same quality, details and fit (I know as I tried on many later versions in store to compare). 

This was my biggest grail at the time I thought I would never sell, but I’ve put on size from the gym. This used to fit bespoke and now it’s a bit small.

This design is the epitome of my favorite design maxim achieving the “maximum impact with the minimum effort”. The fit hits perfect from every angle, sitting high on the hips with the classic Hedi sleeves and tailoring that fits like a glove. To get a sense of how it looks and moves you really need to track down the Beats ad. I included screenshots, but know there’s a bunch of versions of that commercial out there and it’s hard to find now. I included some additional photo reference of British rocker Miles Kane, who has versions in both black and red. Along with the L01, this is the ultimate rock star jacket!

I'm 6 feet, 180lbs for fit pic reference. This is a size 50 EU, 40 US, but in true Hedi Slimane fashion fits small. See below for measurements.

Pit-to-pit: 19 inches tapering to 18.5 inches at the waist

Shoulder-to-shoulder: 17 inches from outer bi-swing seams

Shoulder-to-sleeve: 25 inches

Overall length: 24 inches from base of collar, approx 25 inches overall
