Buyers Guide:
Coil Spring Mattresses Coil spring mattresses are the most popular type. They are made of coil springs wired together, Open coil (also known as Miracoil, Continuous coil, Standard coil etc) are the most common types of mattresses.
Pocket Sprung Mattresses Pocket sprung mattresses offer more support than open coiled. The individual springs that make up the mattress are housed in their own little pockets and work independently of each other. Typically, the higher the spring count, the better the support because of this, a pocket sprung mattress is particularly beneficial if: You and your partner are of different weights You tend to toss and turn throughout the night
Memory Foam Mattresses First designed in the mid-1960s for NASA airplane seats, memory foam is made from a substance called viscoelastic. It is both highly energy absorbent and soft. Memory foam moulds to the body in response to heat and pressure, evenly distributing body weight.
Supportive Foam Mattresses A supportive foam mattress is a mattress made of polyurethane foam, manufactured and branded 'Supportive'. This is a high-density responsive foam that provides support and firmness. Supportive foam is made up of tiny holes that slightly adapt to your body shape, but bounce back against you at the same time.
Pillow Top Mattresses A pillow top is typically an innerspring mattress that has additional foam layers sewn onto the top. Whereas a memory foam mattress can feel like you're sleeping on a cosy layer of encased quicksand, a plush pillow top mattress can feel like you're sleeping on a big, flat, super-soft pillow.
Mattress Finishes
Micro Quilted Micro Quilt Fabrics are the most common finish on mattresses today, they are traditionally a mix of cotton and polyester with a foam base layer. This is machine stitched for added stability in a range of styles. A good quality quilted mattress will add a luxurious feel to your mattress, promoting better quality sleep.
Hand Tufted Tufting involves passing tapes through the mattress at intervals to prevent loose fillings from becoming dislodged and is a necessary part of the construction. Tufting is also a stronger method of securing the fillings in a mattress.
