This is an original Civil War Period clothing document. The soldiers on the document were receiving assorted items of clothing from1st Lt. Wm.L. Best of the 38th Co., 2nd Batt., Invalid Corps. Each of the soldiers signed for the clothes he received - many with an X. Sergeant J.T. Doughty was the witness to each signature. The soldiers received forage caps, uniform jackets, trousers, flannel shirts, drawers, infantry bootees, stockings, great coats, blankets, rubber blankets, knapsacks, haversacks, canteens, chevrons and sargeant sashes. Not everyone got everything. The roll indicates who got what which would later be taken from their pay. Soldiers listed on the roll include:
