This classic preppy accessory has never been used ---- it has only been stored in our closet. This open tote style purse is a rare find ----- a vintage D & B that was produced in America --- with exceptional workmanship and quality. The natural leather trim (on the outside and inside!) and straps (which are 7/8" wide) are beautiful. All of the brass hardware is equally beautiful. On the backs of the brass buckles it is stamped SOLID BRASS. The brass "tag" hanging on the outside of the purse has the oval Dooney & Bourke MADE IN U.S.A. (with the duck inside the oval) on one side, and on the back it reads:

The beautiful inside pocket (with three "sections") on the "back" side is not sewn into the side of the purse; it is beautifully attached / suspended with leather straps and brass hardware ----- as you can see in the photos. Inside the "front" of the purse there are brass loops to which you could attach something else. There is also a lanyard attached at an upper edge (with the fabric Dooney & Bourke label. The front of that fabric label has a red band around the blue letters that read:

On the back of that rectangular fabric label it reads: AO 586526.
The high quality heavy canvas appears to be a very dark brown.
This open top purse can be closed with the leather tab that fits under a brass "loop" on the front. If you use it as an open tote or shopper, there is no zipper. If you want to secure your purse's contents, you could always pop in a coordinating fabric bag with a zipper closure.
As you can see from the photos, each strap goes from one side of the purse to the other. You can unbuckle them and reconfigure them if you want ---- so that both ends of each strap are on the same side of the purse.
