About The Authors:
Fern Jenkins was an active rock hobbyist, participating in just about every facet of the hobby. She cut gems, made pictures with tumble polished stones, fashioned clock cases with gemstones, carved and, or course, made jewelry. She taught the craft of creating beautiful jewelry pieces with square, gold-filled wire at club workshops and to friends. All her work was for enjoyment and for gifts.

Viola Thrasher joined a gem and mineral club upon her husband's retirement, so that the two of them could have a hobby together. After trying many types of gem cutting, they decided to see how many different kinds of butterflies they could carve from gem materials. Viola tried her hand at making square wire jewelry, and found that by turning her imagination loose she could create many new designs. She also enjoyed teaching at club workshops.
