PUGGAREE
This is a original simple woolen puggaree made to fit the Australian slouch hat
issued in the thousands during the great war (WW1) and after
it is the same wool material as used to cover the WW1, WW2 water bottle.
Each is pre cut at 2,in/51mm wide,25,in/65cm long
colour is khaki green,they are in perfect condition
there are no markings or stamps on the puggaree,s
1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron (Western Australia)
Formed in Egypt July 1916 , all Regimental Machine Gun Sections were to be excised from the regiments of the 1st Light Horse Brigade and brigaded to form a Machine Gun Squadron. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Machine Gun Sections were combined to form the 1st Machine Gun Squadron under the command of the Brigade. Initially, each regiment within the brigade raised their own machine gun section which consisted of two troops and two Maxim machine guns. This situation remained from 1914 until in July 1916, when all regimental machine gun Sections were excised and brigaded to form a Machine Gun Squadron. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Machine Gun Sections were combined to form the 1st Machine Gun Squadron under the command of the Brigade. The 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron was armed with 12 machine guns
