Wedgwood Jasperware Infant Academy Oval Trinket Tray Pale Blue Boxed England
Description
A Wedgwood Jasperware oval trinket tray in the classic white on pale blue, in its original Wedgwood box with the original label and tissue.
The central white relief is “The Infant Academy”, taken from Sir Joshua Reynolds’ 1782 painting of children playing at being artists. One sits at an easel painting while the others pose and watch. Wedgwood has used this design since the 18th century, and an early jasper example is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The scene is framed by a beaded inner border and a raised floral garland around the rim.
Impressed underneath: WEDGWOOD / MADE IN ENGLAND. The box label reads “WHT ON BLUE BOXED INFANT ACADEMY TRAY 8231, Made in England”.
