Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton ND made numerous hand-painted pottery shapes from 1940 to 1961.  Their many animal-shaped salt and peppers were very popular items in the area's souvenir shops.  Often depicting animals native to the area, they were very realistically shaped, detailed, and colored.

This pelican salt and pepper set is a great example of Rosemeade's attention to detail.  Examples of these can be seen on page 65 of the reference book "Collector's Encyclopedia of Rosemeade Pottery Identification & Values" by Darlene Hurst Dommel.

The pelicans are finished in a maroon glossy glaze frequently used by Rosemeade.  They are the same size - about 3-1/2 inches tall, 1-1/4 inches wide, and 3-1/4 inches front-to-back.

The salt shaker with 2 holes still has the original Rosemeade foil label on the front.  The pepper shaker with 1 hole still has the original store sticker - "PERRY'S GIFT SHOP WEEKIWACHEE SPRINGS".  This set must have been shipped by Rosemeade to be sold in a shop in Florida where the pelican would actually be native to the area.

They are in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and with original labels.  They are ready to add to a collection or display all on their own.
