4X Victorian mother of pearl tops for antique thread holders
Dating from the 19th century (circa 1840-1880). These beautifully hand-carved discs feature a traditional scalloped floral silhouette with fine, incised starburst lines radiating from a central depression. They would have originally been the decorative top/bottom plates for thread winders, reels or waxers.
As they are missing their corresponding barrels or posts, they are being sold together as a lot for restoration, repair, spares or projects.
Please review the photographs carefully to assess the condition of these delicate, organic items. They are in honest, untouched antique condition with wear consistent with age and utility. There are some minor nibbles along the scalloped edges, fine hairline fissures/cracks tracking along the natural growth grain, and light localized surface discoloration. One disc features a small, clean, factory-drilled offset guide hole on the reverse (at least I think that's why it's there). The central threaded posts are firmly attached and exhibit tarnish and minor verdigris crusting typical of old brass/copper alloys.
X3 measuring 3.5cm and x1 measuring 2.5cm.
