Three related items:

1) a fan club flyer for the Official Beatles Sweater from November 1963;

2) a magazine supplement from December 1963 featuring the only full-colour full-page ad for the sweater ever run;

3) an embroidered patch as featured on the sweater, made available on its own from March 1964 onwards.

Marketed by Weldons of Peckham - Raymond Weldon being Brian Epstein's cousin - the sweater was the first item of official Beatles merchandise to be approved (not counting postcards and posters, etc). Availability was timed to coincide with the release of With the Beatles, which features the band wearing similar black roll-necks on the cover, and - of course - with Christmas in mind... The ads and flyers were intended as much as prompts for parents wanting ideas for presents as for young fans themselves because the sweater was high quality and not cheap...

More detail:

1) A 2-sided Beatles UK Fan Club November flyer / promotional leaflet / newsletter / order form sent out to members of the Beatles fan club by fan club secretary Anne Collingham in Nov 1963 offering a 'pre-release Fan Club price' for the Official Beatles Sweater. That's 'Anne' (real name Mary Cockram) modelling the sweater in the picture on the left.

2) An 8-page special supplement / pull-out section / freebie extra titled Date the Beatles No 2 that came with the 14 December 1963 issue of UK girls' interest magazine / comic Boyfriend, the back cover of which features a full-page, full-colour ad for the sweater. This was the only time it was ever run, in Boyfriend or elsewhere. The rest of the supplement is also included, and the other pages are shown in the pics.

3) The emboidered official cloth badge / patch as featured on the sweater and described on the fan club order form as 'Top-quality two-tone... [with] Precision-Finished embroidery... in gold and red.' The badge was always the sweater's main selling point, and from spring 1964 it was made available on its own so fans could attach it to whatever piece of clothing they chose, or just keep it as a souvenir, unused. As is the case with this one.

(See my other items for the continuing adventures of the badge, including 'Breakfast with the Beatles'.)

The Weldons cloth badge is listed and pictured as item no 291 in the 3rd edition of The Beatles Memorabilia Price Guide by Jeff Augsburger et al.

Excellent condition. Badge unused, as new. Some slight yellowing to the supplement, which also has a gentle horizontal central fold.

The mailing charge for the USA I've quoted allows for the new tariff charges of up to 10%, though this can be unpredictable.

As in all other cases, if it happens to cost less to send than I've quoted, I'll refund any difference over £1.

Check out my other items. I try to list new items of Beatles memorabilia / merchandise every week or two.
