Up for auction or sale is a gorgeous, authentic Vintage Emdee by Schell Black Leather Doctor's Medical Bag. Manufactured by the historic Schell Leather Company out of Cincinnati, Ohio, this heavy-duty physician's satchel represents a bygone era of American medicine and classic style.
The bottom of the bag is beautifully embossed with the original Schell Brand oval logo, "Cincinnati, Ohio", "Made in U.S.A.", the model production numbers 5681-55385, and the number 1271. It features a heavily structured, wide-mouth frame designed to stay propped open, a thick rounded leather top handle, an ornate diamond-shaped silver-tone central latch, and metal protective feet on the base. The interior features a striking off-white textured vinyl lining with two spacious, separate side-pouch organizers.
Condition Report
• Exterior: The black top-grain leather is structurally solid, showing a beautiful vintage patina with scattered superficial scuffs, scratches, and character wear consistent with age and real-world medical use. The metal base feet and the main handle hardware show minor tarnish but remain firmly attached.
• Hardware & Function: The main top hinged-jaw opening frame works flawlessly, allowing the bag to prop open completely and close securely. The silver-tone diamond central clasp latches tightly. Note: Key is not included.
• Interior & Flaw Detail: The off-white inner lining is intact, though it displays typical vintage discoloration and cosmetic staining/dark spots on the bottom floor from prior storage. PLEASE NOTE: One of the tan leather interior snap straps used to secure the side flaps has broken off and is missing entirely (as shown in the close-up photos). The other side flap strap is present and fully operational.
