The New Park Street Pulpit, Containing Sermons Preached and Revised by the Rev. C. H. Spurgeon, Minister of the Chapel, During the Year 1856. Vol. II.

London: Passmore & Alabaster, 4 Paternoster Buildings, 1857.

An attractive original 1857 volume of C. H. Spurgeon’s early sermons, published while Spurgeon was still minister of New Park Street Chapel, before the opening of the Metropolitan Tabernacle.

This is Volume II of the New Park Street Pulpit, containing Sermons Nos. 54–106, representing Spurgeon’s preaching from 1856. The New Park Street Pulpit eventually comprised six volumes covering sermons 1–347 from Spurgeon’s earliest London ministry

Among the sermons in this volume are:

The volume concludes with Sermon No. 106, “Turn or Burn.”

An especially appealing feature is the original gilt device on the front board bearing the words “We Preach Christ and Him Crucified.” The preface also carries a printed facsimile of Spurgeon’s signature — this should not be confused with an original autograph.

This is from the original Passmore & Alabaster series from which later editions and reprints of the New Park Street and Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit ultimately derive.
