A wonderfully unusual older leather travel bag with a convertible design that can be configured as a large safari-style backpack/rucksack or transformed into a compact top-handle handbag/travel bag.
The backpack configuration features a large main compartment, oversized flap, multiple exterior storage pockets, buckle closures and adjustable leather straps. The bag converts into the dramatically different top-handle configuration shown in the photos, making this an especially interesting piece of vintage travel gear.
Constructed from tan/cognac leather with brass-tone hardware. The leather has developed substantial natural character, including creasing, patina, tonal variation and wear that give the bag a distinctive well-traveled appearance.
This bag was acquired as part of a group of similar older leather travel bags found together. Several other bags from the same group bear Mount Kenya Safari Club markings. This particular example does not have visible Mount Kenya Safari Club branding, so no specific maker or club attribution is being made.
Includes the accompanying leather straps/hardware used for the convertible configuration.
Condition is pre-owned with age and use throughout. The light interior shows visible staining/spotting, and the leather and edges show wear consistent with an older travel bag. These condition details are photographed and are part of the item's existing character.
A striking piece for vintage travel gear, safari-style luggage, leather bag, rucksack and unusual convertible-bag collectors.
