THE GOSPEL IN VARIOUS ASPECTS: A BOOK FOR THE ANXIOUS
by William Landels, Minister of Regent’s Park Chapel
New Edition
London: James Nisbet & Co., 21 Berners Street, 1866
A Victorian evangelical work by William Landels (1823–1899), the prominent Scottish Baptist minister and preacher. Landels served at Regent’s Park Chapel in London and became an influential figure within nineteenth-century British Baptist life. Contemporary accounts describe him as a noted preacher, and he later held an important place in Baptist denominational affairs.
A strongly evangelical treatment of the Gospel and salvation, arranged under seven principal subjects: What is the Gospel?; The Love of God to the World; God’s Unspeakable Gift; The Sin of the World Put Away by Christ; Eternal Life in Christ; Look and Live; and The Hindrance to Salvation.
The book is particularly concerned with assurance, repentance, faith in Christ and the salvation of the anxious or seeking reader.
Original blue textured cloth, blind-ruled decoration to boards, with gilt title and author to the upper board and gilt lettering to spine.
Condition is acceptable for its age, with faults. There is rubbing and wear to the extremities, particularly the head of the spine where there is some fraying/loss, together with corner and edge wear. The endpapers bear former ownership inscriptions and a DON HARRIS ownership stamp, as does the title-page. Contents show general age-toning, foxing/spotting and handling marks, foxing heavy in places, with some creasing and minor wear to page edges and corners. Some leaves retain a rough/untrimmed appearance. Occasional pencil lines against the text. A few leaves with marginal loss at top - text unaffected.
Please study all photographs as these form an important part of the condition description.
