NEW DRAGON 1/350 USS ARTHUR W. RADFORD Spruance Class Destroyer and New Technology Testbed
USS Arthur W. Radford (DD-968) was a Spruance-class destroyer in the United States Navy. She was named for Admiral Arthur W. Radford USN (1896–1973), the first naval officer to be Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Commissioned in 1977, USS Arthur W. Radford was the sixth destroyer built in the Spruance class. Radford completed 10 overseas deployments, including "Operation Enduring Freedom" before being decommissioned in 2003. Since 2004, Radford later served as a test bed for the Advanced Enclosed Mast/Sensor System (AEMSS) in place of aft mast for the Navy's DD(X) next-generation destroyer program. She was decommissioned on 18 March 2003 after serving for 26 years, and on 10 August 2011 her hull was scuttled off the coast of Delaware to form part of an artificial reef.
