Stangl Pottery in Flemington New Jersey made numerous vases, pots, figurines, and dinnerware from 1930 to 1978. While probably best known for their colorful bird figurines, early in the 1930s they made a line of small animal figurines in single pastel colors and in white with black hand-decorated details.
This small elephant figurine from their early production is about 2-5/8 inches tall, 1-3/4 inches wide, and 4-1/8 inches nose-to-tail. Like many of these early animal figurines, he was finished with a white glossy glaze and black hand-painted details on his trunk, eyes, ears, tail, and feet.
For a piece almost 100 years old, it is in good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to add to a collection or display all on its own.
Ships USPS.
