The American Clipper draws inspiration from Bulova's mid-20th-century heritage designs, combining a traditional dress-watch profile with an automatic mechanical movement.
The watch features a 39mm round stainless-steel case with yellow-gold-tone PVD finish, a deep black dial with gold-tone accents, Arabic numerals at selected even-hour positions, slim baton markers at the remaining hours, and vintage-styled Selfwinding typography above 6 o'clock.
The classic case has a polished dress-watch profile with elongated lugs and a crown positioned at 3 o'clock. The watch is fitted with a brown two-piece padded leather strap with an alligator/crocodile-embossed finish.
The automatic movement is a 21-jewel self-winding mechanical movement. The 97A151 is documented as the black-dial, gold-tone 39mm American Clipper configuration.
