Brief Description

Originally launched by Image Comics in 1992, Spawn is the landmark creator-owned series created by Todd McFarlane and one of the most successful independent comic-book titles of the modern era. Debuting as one of the flagship titles from the newly formed Image Comics, the series introduced readers to Al Simmons, a former government operative who returns from the dead as the supernatural antihero known as Spawn.

After being betrayed and murdered, Simmons makes a deal with the demon Malebolgia in hopes of returning to his wife Wanda. Instead, he returns years later horribly transformed, with fragmented memories and extraordinary supernatural abilities. Discovering that Wanda has moved on with his former best friend Terry Fitzgerald, Spawn struggles with his lost humanity while becoming caught in an enormous conflict between the forces of Heaven and Hell.

Throughout its long-running history, Spawn has introduced an extensive cast of memorable characters including Violator, Clown, Angela, Medieval Spawn, Redeemer, Sam and Twitch, Cog, Chapel, Cy-Gor, She-Spawn, and many others. The series combines supernatural horror, dark fantasy, superhero action, crime, and mythology, creating a distinctive universe that has continued expanding for decades.

Created, written, and originally illustrated by Todd McFarlane, the series has also featured contributions from numerous notable comic creators, including Greg Capullo, Brian Holguin, David Hine, Szymon Kudranski, Jason Shawn Alexander, Carlo Barberi, and others. McFarlane?s highly detailed artwork and distinctive visual style, followed by Greg Capullo?s celebrated run, helped establish Spawn as one of the most recognizable comics of the 1990s and beyond.

More than three decades after its debut, Spawn remains an ongoing Image Comics series, becoming one of the longest-running creator-owned comic books in American comics history and expanding into numerous spin-offs, toys, animation, film, video games, and other media.

Whether you're building a complete Spawn run, collecting Todd McFarlane or Greg Capullo artwork, or exploring the darker side of the Image Comics universe, Spawn remains a cornerstone of modern independent comic collecting.
