Antique arts and crafts cabinet made of oak, with pipes, cigar tin and other early 20th century items.
Dating from around the early 1920s, this George V oak cabinet has two panelled doors with Arts & Crafts inspired carvings. The hinged lid and the doors at the front open to reveal a fitted interior with pipe racks and drawers. There are wooden handles at the side for ease of carrying. The cabinet comes with the following items:
● Six pipes: five of these are of classic briar wood. Briar pipes, made from the root burl of the Mediterranean briar plant, were a popular type due to their heat resistance and durability. The other pipe is an original clay pipe.
● Five cigars in a decorative brass cigar tin: four of these are in their original tubes
● Pipe cleaners, plus a small tin for matches, and an ashtray
This item belonged to my grandfather, who passed away in 1963. It lay untouched in my parents' loft until last year.
Made from high quality oak, the cabinet is in excellent condition, with only a few very minor scuffs, consistent with its age and use.
This item would make an excellent display piece and talking point.
