Rosemeade Pottery in Wahpeton ND made numerous hand-painted pottery shapes from 1940 to 1961. Their many animal-shaped salt and peppers were very popular items in the area's souvenir shops. Often depicting animals native to the area, they were very realistically shaped, detailed, and colored.
This Wire-haired Fox Terrior salt and pepper set with white, tan, and black glazes is a great example of Rosemeade's hand-painted attention to detail. They are the same size - about 2-1/4 inches tall, 2 inches wide, and 2-3/4 inches front-to-back. The salt shaker has 3 holes. The pepper shaker has 2 holes and the original foil label on the back. Both have what appears to be their original corks in the bottom.
Examples of this set can be seen on page 95 of the 2000 Collectors Encyclopedia of Rosemeade Pottery - Identification & Values - by Darlene Hurst Dommel.
Over 60 years old, these are in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready add to a collection or display all on their own.
