Original WWII Japanese Army tropical under-shirt / Bousho Juban for hot-weather and southern theater use.
This is a late-war example dated Showa 20 (1945), size Medium, with Osaka Depot inspection and Tokushima supply markings.
Made from lightweight khaki cotton with a short body, three-quarter-length sleeves, two buttoned chest pockets, and buttoned side vents under the arms. The collar is made from a slightly heavier green cotton fabric.
Approximate measurements:
Pit to pit: 52 cm
Length: 64 cm
Sleeve length: 48 cm
Shoulder width: 44 cm
The cut is relatively loose and roomy for a Japanese wartime garment.
This example appears to be unissued and to have remained in storage. The fabric is still solid and shows no significant field wear.
There are light storage stains where the wooden buttons contacted the fabric while folded, as well as some yellowish discoloration on the back.
A particularly interesting feature is the surviving paper production tag. The tag identifies a municipal vocational / relief workshop (授産場) and includes a stamped name in the sewing-worker field. During the wartime period, such facilities were incorporated into military supply production and undertook sewing and other contract work for military use.
Because this garment was produced in 1945 and remains in apparently unused condition with its paper tag still present, it may never have been issued before the end of the war.
The garment retains its wartime depot and inspection markings.
A very interesting late-war Japanese Army tropical garment showing both military issue details and the broader wartime production system.
