Original WWII-era Japanese military sword koshirae with leather-covered scabbard and a shortened/cut blade.

Overall length in scabbard: approx. 93 cm
Scabbard length: approx. 67 cm
Handle length: approx. 25 cm
Remaining cut blade length: approx. 16 cm

The wooden lacquered scabbard is fitted with a suspension ring and covered with a dark brown leather combat cover. The blade was cut down after the war, and the mounts appear to have been preserved as a koshirae.

The fittings are interesting and appear to combine older traditional-style components with wartime field use. The tsuba is a thin, round iron guard with three openings and a wave-like design. The handle is wrapped in black cord over clean samegawa. The menuki feature detailed tiger and dragon motifs.

The kashira is a flat traditional-style type, with a cord fitted in place of a military-style swivel. The snap strap connecting the handle and scabbard is still present and functional.

The tang is unsigned.

Condition is generally very good for its age. The leather scabbard cover shows age and light surface wear but remains solid. The handle wrap, samegawa, and fittings are well preserved. Please note that the blade has been cut and is not complete.

An interesting example of a wartime Japanese field sword mounting using older-style fittings.
