Asafo flags are traditional, hand-sewn appliquéd military banners created by local Asafo companies to represent their community, military power, history, and proverbs. This piece features characteristic cotton appliquéd imagery, including birds, roosters, and a sword/sabre on a red, white, and blue field with a border, which often symbolize specific proverbs, challenges to rival companies, or historical events.
