This is the Contax Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 MMJ manual focus prime lens in Contax/Yashica (C/Y) mount.
Introduced as a flagship fast wide-angle prime for the Contax SLR system, the Distagon T 35mm f/1.4 MMJ* represents the Japanese-manufactured ("MMJ") iteration of Zeiss's legendary f/1.4 wide-angle optical formula. The "MM" (Multi-Mode) designation indicates its mechanical capability to support shutter-priority and programmed autoexposure modes on advanced Contax bodies (such as the 167MT, RX, and ST), distinguished visually by the green paint on its smallest aperture number (f/16). Featuring a robust all-metal barrel with a smooth, long-throw manual focus ring, it includes an automatic aperture control system with click stops down to f/16 and utilizes a standard 67mm filter thread.
Engineered around an advanced 10-element in 9-group retrofocus optical formula with a floating lens element system, it maintains exceptional sharpness and resolution from its minimum focus distance of 0.3 meters all the way to infinity. Treated with Zeiss’s iconic multi-layer T anti-reflective coating*, the optic delivers extraordinary flare suppression, rich color saturation, and high micro-contrast, producing a distinct 3D-like rendering and smooth background bokeh when shot wide open at f/1.4. Renowned for its optical performance and cinematic focus falloff, the Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 MMJ remains one of the most sought-after vintage wide-angle primes for both 35mm film photography and modern cinema lens conversions.
