A very rare and hard-to-find Moorcroft small bowl, specially designed to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. This is a wonderful piece of mid-century British commemorative pottery, combining Moorcroft’s distinctive decorative style with an important moment in British history.

The bowl has a beautifully vibrant blue-green ground, with a rich glaze that gives the surface wonderful depth. At the centre is a striking arrangement of colourful flowers, surrounded by the initials “E II R”, the royal crown and the date 1953. The floral design incorporates flowers associated with the British Isles, beautifully arranged against the background. The vivid reds, coral pinks, golden yellows and fresh greens of the flowers contrast beautifully with the deep blue-green glaze, while the hand-decorated details give the piece plenty of character.

At just over 11cm wide and approximately 4cm tall, it is a charming little bowl. Very rare and difficult to find, particularly in this attractive condition.

It has no chips or cracks. There is some glaze crazing, which is typical and to be expected with a piece of this age
