Lower-cost shipping option: If you are interested in the original speaker components but do not need the large wooden cabinet, I can carefully remove and ship all internal components together — woofer, midrange, tweeters/horn, crossover, tweeter level control, wiring, and related parts.

The item price will remain the same, but shipping should be significantly cheaper because the large cabinet will not be included.

With this option, the wooden cabinet and front grille are not included in the shipment. If you also want the original grille, it can be shipped separately in a second package because it is large, flat, and requires a completely different box. Please contact me before purchase if you prefer the components-only shipping option.

Rare vintage Hitachi HS-X38 speaker system, Made in Japan, early 1980s. This listing is for one speaker only, not a pair.

4-way speaker system featuring a large approximately 16" / 41 cm woofer, midrange driver, multiple high-frequency drivers, and horn. Rear factory label states 8 Ohms nominal, 4.5 Ohms minimum, 80 Watts rated, 250 Watts maximum.

Actual dimensions with the original front grille installed: approximately 27" H × 17" W × 10" D.

The speaker has been tested. The large woofer and center midrange driver are working properly. Sound is clean with no noticeable rattling. The woofer cone, surround, and other visible driver surfaces are in very good condition with no visible tears.

During testing, I was not able to hear output from the upper horn or the two smaller high-frequency drivers. Adjusting the Tweeter Level control did not produce a noticeable change. The exact cause has not been diagnosed. The interior is very clean, wiring appears connected, and the crossover shows no obvious visible damage. This issue is fully disclosed and the speaker is being sold accordingly.

The cabinet is in very good cosmetic condition for its age. One section of the front baffle has slight separation from the main cabinet. The original front grille is included with the complete-speaker option and has some minor fabric wear/damage.

A previous owner hand-etched the serial number 1000725G onto several front trim/components. This number matches the serial number label on the rear of the cabinet.
