📜 Description
Original vintage Soviet postcard featuring a dramatic illustration inspired by Vladimir Mayakovsky's famous revolutionary poem Khorosho! (Хорошо! / Good!), depicting the October Revolution of 1917.
The powerful scene portrays armed revolutionary workers and Red Guards storming the Winter Palace in Petrograd during the October Revolution.
In the foreground, revolutionary fighters carrying rifles with fixed bayonets advance up the grand staircase, stepping over fallen defenders. Above them, armed revolutionaries wave red flags from the upper balcony of the palace.
The richly decorated interior, monumental staircase, and dramatic red-and-black composition capture the intensity of the revolutionary events as represented in Soviet historical art.
The illustration is accompanied by an excerpt from Mayakovsky's poem describing the revolutionaries breaking into the Winter Palace and advancing through its halls.
The Russian text reads: Translation: “They burst in. Onto the carpets! Beneath the gilded ceiling! They took every step of every staircase, stepping over the cadets.”
The postcard combines Soviet revolutionary imagery with the avant-garde literary tradition of Vladimir Mayakovsky.
