The 24-hour Navitimer, designed and made after Lieutenant Commander Scott Carpenter's famous request for his Mercury-Atlas 7 mission, has undergone many changes throughout its production. This rare specimen combines some of the most unique features of the model's earliest history.

Initially only exclusively sold to the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) after the 809 was first developed, this dial is among the rare few featuring the initialed AOPA logo, better known as the AOPA dial; in this instance, it has been printed in silver onto the black dial. This predates the later design commercialised for the public that bore the 'Cosmonaute' marketing term and Breitling twin-jet logo.
