Distinctive mid-20th century hand-carved wooden Laughing Buddha / Budai / Hotei statue, approximately dating to the 1950s–1970s.
This expressive standing figure features a broad smiling face, prominent rounded belly and an unusual dramatic pose with both elongated arms raised overhead. The face is enhanced with contrasting light-colored inlaid eyes and teeth, while numerous small light and reddish circular decorative inlays accent the arms and clothing.
The figure wears a deeply carved flowing robe with decorative waist detailing and stands on carved feet above a substantial wooden display plinth. The dark brown aged finish has developed attractive wear, cracking and patina consistent with an older decorative wood carving.
