Moonrise is a 1948 American film noir drama about a young man in a small Southern town who is haunted by the fact that his father was executed for murder. Shunned by the community and struggling with his own violent temper, he accidentally kills a man in self-defense. As guilt and paranoia consume him, he must decide whether to confess or run from his past.
The film is a moody, emotionally powerful, and visually striking noir that explores themes of inherited guilt, social rejection, and inner torment.
It stars Dane Clark as the tormented Danny Hawkins, Gail Russell as his love interest Gilly, and features strong supporting performances by Ethel Barrymore, Allyn Joslyn, and Harry Morgan.
