A handsome facsimile reproduction of the 1793 First American Edition of this important early biography of John Wesley by Thomas Coke and Henry Moore, both prominent figures in early Methodism and contemporaries of Wesley.
The reproduced title page reads:
Philadelphia: Printed by Parry Hall, No. 149, Chesnut Street, and sold by John Dickins, No. 182, Race Street. M.DCC.XCIII. [1793]
and expressly identifies the work as “The First American Edition.”

The volume reproduces the original eighteenth-century typography and layout, including the dedication by Coke and Moore dated London, March 1, 1792. The work provides an extensive contemporary account of Wesley's life and of the development of the Methodist revival in Britain, Europe and America.
The book is presented in an attractive antiquarian-style decorative binding, with brown textured covering, gilt-style ruled decoration to the boards, raised bands to the spine and a red gilt-lettered title label reading Coke & Moore – Life of John Wesley – 1793. Attractive marbled-pattern endpapers and coloured page edges complete the period-style appearance.

A very attractive copy in sound condition. Binding firm and the leaves secure. The decorative binding presents particularly well, with only light signs of handling.
The reproduced pages intentionally retain the appearance and characteristics of the original 1793 printing, including areas of toning, spotting and other marks present in the source copy used for reproduction. These should not necessarily be interpreted as foxing or staining occurring to this modern facsimile itself.
