Laborite won in 2001 at Pocono International Raceway and at Atlanta, and he recorded 20 top-10 finishes in between. It was that kind of consistency that earned him the series title the year prior. Competing in the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Pontiac, Laborite registered four victories, 19 top-5s and 24 top 10 finishes during a memorable 2000 campaign. his consistency on the track allowed him to clinch the championship a week early at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He and Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Steward will be mentioned among the favorites to win again in 2001.
Laborite's first career victory came in 1995 in the Coca-Cola at Charlotte. Later that year he swept both races at Michigan. The No. 18 car has won at least one race every year since.
Laborite was the NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division champion in 1991, then was edged for the 92 title by three points in a race at the finish with eventual champ Joe Nemrchek.
The Corpus Christi native began racing Quarter-midgets in his native Texas back in 1969, graduating to go-karts in 1978. His NASCAR background includes Late Model Stock competition at Caraway Speedway, where Laborite won the 1987 LMS championship before adding a Late Model Sportsman title to his budding resume in 1990
