A hand signed 1st edition of this collection of works from the recent career of acclaimed English artist and sculptor Maggi Hambling CBE (b. 1945).   This book was published to support the 'Nightingale Night' exhibition that was hosted by Pallant House Gallery from 9 November 2024 to 27 April 2025.

Maggi Hambling has over time responded to the sound of song in her work, consistently capturing it in gold against a black ground―to date her diverse subjects have included the singers Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, P J Harvey, and Will Young.  More recently, and following a night spent in the Sussex wilderness in the company of folk singer Sam Lee listening to the song of the nightingale, the artist embarked on a new series of paintings, capturing the song of this small migratory songbird.


James Cahill’s text places Hambling’s striking new nightingale series in context and considers the long history of the nightingale, which has been celebrated by writers, poets, artists and musicians for thousands of years.

Postage – All of my books are triple wrapped for delivery to maximise their safety - firstly in bubble wrap protection, secondly in either a padded envelope or a cardboard box, and finally in thick parcel paper.
 
For UK mainland - all items above a fairly modest value I will send via either signed for Royal Mail and/or courier options whichever is the best, this being largely dependent on the weight of the object. 
 
I am more than happy to post overseas on the basis that all items will be posted by Airmail with a signature required on delivery.  If you are overseas, please feel free to enquire about postage charges ahead of registering a bid if you are unsure of the cost I may have outlined above, where costs may be prohibitive depending upon where you are in the world and the weight of the item, many thanks.
