Description

A complete RTK outfit in great condition, built on the Trimble R8 Model 2 with its internal 450-470 MHz UHF radio. The R8-2 runs 72 channels on Trimble's Maxwell custom survey GNSS chip with R-Track technology, and this unit is set up to work as either a base or a rover — the transmit side is enabled, so you can stand it up over a control point and broadcast, or pole-mount it and take corrections in. It is running firmware 4.64.

GPS L5 and GLONASS are both enabled on this receiver. Those were paid options on the R8 Model 2, and plenty of used units on the market do not have them — without GLONASS you are working GPS-only, which costs you satellites exactly when you need them most, under canopy and in tight urban corridors. Worth checking against any other R8-2 you are comparing this one to.

Field control is a Trimble TSC3 running Trimble Access 2016.12 on a perpetual license — no ongoing subscription to maintain — with a sunlight-readable 4.2" VGA touchscreen, full QWERTY keypad, IP67 and MIL-STD-810G. The kit ships in its case with two batteries, a dual charger, the UHF antenna, and the TSC3 charger.

Options Already Unlocked

        This receiver has GPS L5, GLONASS and base (transmit) operation all enabled. On the R8 Model 2 these were separately licensed options, and buying them after the fact on a used receiver is rarely practical — so a unit that already carries them is worth more than the same hardware without.
      

The TSC3 carries a perpetual Trimble Access license. Trimble Access has since moved to a subscription model, and a perpetual license is tied to the controller itself — so the software on this unit keeps running with nothing to renew. Worth knowing too: the TSC3 runs the Access 2017 series at the newest, as Access 2018 and later were redesigned for newer controllers, which makes a perpetual license the practical way to keep a TSC3 in service.
