This is a Japanese woodblock print titled “Nanzenji Temple Autumn Leaves” by renowned contemporary Kyoto artist Teruhide Kato (1936–2015).
Teruhide Kato was an artist deeply inspired by Kyoto.
He depicted the atmosphere and beauty of the ancient capital through bold and distinctive compositions, often characterized by a striking use of black and white.
This artwork depicts the beautiful autumn foliage of Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto, one of the city's historic temples, recreated using traditional Japanese woodblock printing techniques.
This is a later impression printed from the original woodblocks.
The original woodblocks were used by a highly skilled traditional woodblock printer to hand-print this work.
The print is made on Echizen Washi, a traditional Japanese paper known for its high quality.
