Early R.L. Winston IM6 three-piece fly rod.

This example has the early five-digit serial number 19397. It features a zebrawood reel-seat insert and black-finished aluminum hardware, a configuration used by Winston for a limited period.

The action is relatively fast for a classic Winston IM6, but it retains a smooth feel and does not feel excessively stiff.

The Winston company label on the aluminum tube and the model label on the tube cap are missing. The tube has a few small areas of finish loss.

The cork grip has an area where a natural cork pit was filled.

The edges of the reel-seat hardware and butt cap have a few very small areas of black finish loss.

The butt section of the blank has numerous surface rub marks and a few small areas of finish loss. The mid section also has some surface marks, while the tip section has only minor wear.

There are no deep scratches, and these cosmetic signs of use do not affect the rod’s function.
