This listing is for three vintage highball or cocktail glasses made by Fred Press. These glasses were produced in a variety of patterns – these three have the white background and different gold fish around the outside. The Fred Press mark is visible in the photograph.
Fred Press was a highly influential 20th-century American artist and mid-century designer who helped revolutionize the upscale giftware industry. Born in Boston in 1919, Press began his career as an award-winning sculptor and painter before moving to New York City in the 1950s to serve as the chief designer for Rubel and Company. During his thirty-year tenure there, he translated his artistic talent into commercial success by creating elegant, atomic-era barware and glass accessories that were sold in high-end Fifth Avenue boutiques. Today, he is best remembered by collectors for his stunning mid-century cocktail glasses, decanters, and ice buckets that famously utilized genuine 22- and 24-carat gold detailing. The stylized fish motif seen on these highball glasses remains one of his most iconic and highly sought-after designs.
Good condition. No chips or cracks. No staining. The gold shows light-minus to light wear, with the overwhelming majority intact. There is some loss on one fish (see the different angles). The white walls around the glasses is intact. Please see the pictures for more information and to help with your decision.
These glasses measure 6 ¾’’ high and 2 ½’’ across the rim.
