Wonderful and unusual piece of Iowa folk art featuring a hand-carved and hand-painted gentleman standing alongside an old-fashioned street lamp.

The brass nameplate on the front reads “SOT” HARLAND HETZLER, and a label found on the removable rear access panel identifies Harland Hetzler, 202 S. Sycamore St., Monticello, Iowa 52310.

Harland Hetzler was a longtime Monticello resident, retired insurance agent and longtime supporter/board member of Camp Courageous in Iowa. The exact history of this particular piece and the meaning of the nickname “SOT” have not been determined.

An unusual piece with great character and an intriguing Iowa history. Whether originally created for Harland Hetzler, by him, or as a presentation/gift piece is currently unknown.

Sold as Untested.  Does have a battery compartment but unsure what it is supposed to do. Likely a one of a kind item and perfect addition to your collection! The lamp has come unsoddered and is wobbly.
