This medal, a lesser-known variation of the Warren G. Harding medal issued by the US Mint, is quite uncommon. Most commonly seen is a medal featuring the memorial reverse and it is easily acquirable. The medal for sale here is not only difficult to locate, but it is the rarer of two distinct varieties struck with this original, reverse die. If you look closely at the obverse of this medal, you will see the George T. Morgan signature is absent above the president's left shoulder and the suit coat is very detailed. Most medals with this reverse design are paired with the obverse that includes Morgan's signature and have a less textured suit coat. The later obverse was also used with the much more common memorial reverse. It is also my recollection that there were at least two distinct varieties of the reverse die, one with Morgan's signature and one without. However, at this time, I cannot locate a photo of one without the signature! This would be a remarkable piece for a collection of 20th century Presidential medals, US Mint medals, or even as a placeholder in a collection of official inaugural medals. While Harding is not the most popular president, I find this medal to be underappreciated and undervalued.

Composition: Bronze
Edge: Smooth
Maker: United States Mint in Philadelphia
Engraver: George T. Morgan
Mintage: Unknown
Condition: There is a white powdery substance between the head and wings of the eagle on the reverse. On the obverse, someone took a pencil and outlined the President's portrait.

I try my best to represent the item accurately in the photos. Please ask questions that you may have prior to bidding or purchasing. Thanks for looking!
