Original vintage Remington Sportsman factory literature in heavily used, worn and tattered condition.
The six pages show extensive age and handling wear including numerous folds and creases, heavy wrinkling, age toning, staining and spotting, edge and corner wear, tears, small areas of paper loss and other deterioration consistent with many decades of use and storage.
Despite the condition, substantial original printing remains readable and the important Remington graphics, operating information, component illustrations, parts information and sectional action diagrams remain visible.
This is a well-worn original collector piece and is being sold exactly as shown. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition and completeness.
Offered is a six-page group of original vintage Remington factory instructions and parts literature for the Remington Sportsman three-shot autoloading shotgun.
The primary illustrated sheet is headed:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE OPERATION AND CARE
OF THE
Remington
SPORTSMAN
It features an illustration of the early Remington Sportsman along with the distinctive red REMINGTON UMC trademark.
The literature identifies the Sportsman as a three-shot shotgun and references 12, 16 and 20 gauge versions.
The factory material contains specifications and detailed instructions covering operation, assembly, loading, care, disassembly and reassembly.
Of particular interest to collectors are the detailed sectional views showing the action in both the OPEN and CLOSED positions. Individual components are identified throughout the illustrations, including the receiver, locking block, breech block, firing pin, extractor, hammer, trigger, carrier, magazine components, recoil spring and friction components.
Additional sheets contain component illustrations and factory parts information, providing an excellent period technical reference for the early Remington Sportsman.
The Sportsman was Remington's three-shot version of its recoil-operated autoloading shotgun. The 20-gauge Sportsman was announced in 1930, with 12- and 16-gauge versions following. The original Sportsman remained in production through the 1940s before being replaced by the later Sportsman 48.
This literature has clearly seen substantial use over its long life. It is heavily folded, creased, stained and worn, with tears and areas of edge deterioration. Nevertheless, it has survived for roughly nine decades and retains substantial readable factory information.
An interesting survivor for the Remington collector, vintage sporting-literature collector, or owner of an early Remington Sportsman seeking original period documentation.
Factory literature only. No other items are included.
This original Remington Sportsman literature is estimated to date from approximately 1931–1934.
Remington introduced the three-shot Sportsman around 1930–31, initially in 20 gauge, with 12- and 16-gauge versions subsequently joining the line.
The early Remington UMC presentation, typography, illustrations and overall publication style are consistent with the early production era. Because no definitive publication date is visible in the photographs, circa 1931–1934 is an estimated date rather than an exact printing year.
Thank you for taking the time to look at this original early Remington Sportsman factory literature. This particular set has certainly seen plenty of use over its long life, but that is also part of its history. Despite the wear, it has survived for roughly nine decades with its original Remington graphics, technical illustrations and operating information still substantially intact.
I specialize in original firearm literature, factory catalogs, owner’s manuals, gun storage boxes, advertising, brochures, and hard-to-find collectibles of various types. Many items are not yet listed, so if you’re looking for a particular catalog, gun box, or owner’s manual from any brand, feel free to contact me.
I make every effort to identify and describe vintage material accurately, including its faults. With an item this old, I believe showing and describing the wear clearly is particularly important. The photographs show the actual literature you will receive.

The original Remington Sportsman occupies an interesting place in Remington history. It was introduced as a three-shot version of Remington's recoil-operated autoloading shotgun at the beginning of the 1930s. The 20-gauge version appeared first, followed by 12- and 16-gauge versions.
Original instructional material from this early period can be particularly useful because it preserves factory illustrations and technical information that may not appear in later manuals. Even in heavily worn condition, an original set such as this has historical and reference value to collectors of early Remington sporting arms and factory literature.
