Original vintage Royal Navy photograph album, apparently compiled by a sailor associated with HMS Ganges, with the cover additionally hand-marked “Malta”.

A substantial period album containing a large collection of original black and white photographs documenting Royal Navy service, ships, sailors, overseas postings, Malta and Mediterranean scenes together with personal and social photographs.

Particularly interesting naval content includes photographs of Royal Navy warships at sea and in harbour, shipboard life, sailors in uniform, groups wearing HMS Ganges cap tallies, naval training and shore leave. There are also excellent Malta/Gibraltar/Mediterranean views, harbour scenes, local street scenes and civilian photographs.

Of particular interest is the large dramatic aerial photograph of a Royal Navy warship underway, clearly showing pennant number D88, together with numerous other naval vessels photographed during the compiler's service.

The album itself has an attractive coloured heraldic crest to the front with the motto “Virtute” and period cord binding. It contains a considerable number of photographs mounted throughout rather than being a small selection of loose photographs.

A fascinating untouched piece of Royal Navy social history which would reward further research into the ships, locations and original sailor represented within the album.

Vintage condition with expected age-related wear to the album, pages and photographs. Some photographs have creasing, fading, marks or corner wear. Please study the photographs carefully for condition and contents.
